In the Thoroughbred industry, pregnant mares are monitored 24-7 in the last stages of their pregnancies. As Thoroughbreds are bred to race, they often struggle delivering foals. DamronTech camera installations monitor horses valued in excess of half a billion dollars. One stallion alone has been valued at 100 million and three monitored mares are valued at five to ten million dollars each. Barns are hostile environments with large swings in temperature and humidity. Also, barns commonly have poorly regulated electrical systems subject to surges and under voltage conditions. Insurance coverages often require 24-7 recording of barn activity.
While Damrontech competitors have installed expensive and vulnerable IP camera systems, DamronTech has embraced more reliable and economical technology. Commonly, horse farms have an office building with high speed Internet and multiple barns spread out hundreds of acres.
In a pure IP system, an NVR would reside in the office building and wireless bridges would be utilized to connect to one or more barns with IP cameras. This conventional approach presents a number of issues.
1) Loss of bridge connectivity with barns results in a loss of recording.
2) IP devices go offline more often than analog cameras.
3) Replacement cost of IP components installed in a hostile environment.
DamronTech utilizes a simple approach to secure and maintain clients that were poorly
served by more expensive IP systems or couldn’t afford IP systems.
DamronTech utilizes independent DVR’s in each barn location connecting to an Internet
source in the office building using wireless bridges. Bolide CMS/VMS and mobile apps
support multiple devices and have proven themselves in DamronTech’s farm
installations.
